Every 11/11 in South Korea is Pepero Day aka Sweetest Day or similar to Valentine's Day but it includes giving gifts to friends, family, and loved ones. A traditional "pepero" is a cracker-like stick dipped in chocolate. But, there are now variations such as coffee flavored, vanilla, almond and peanut covered. I loved Pepero Day as many of my students brought me pepero, it was very cute. I got a mixture of homemade ones and store-bought ones. Similar to how Hallmark created Valentine's Day, Pepero Day was created by "Lotte", the company that makes the candy (genius!). In the last week, but especially yesterday, pepero was being sold at every store and street corner. It was possible to buy pepero in every shape and color box that you could think of. My favorites were when many small boxes were taped together in the shape of a heart. My favorite pepero came from my lovely boyfriend though :)
